Mehdi El Glaoui (born 1956) is a French actor and director who occupies a special place in the collective memory of French television audiences. The son of actress and director Cécile Aubry and the grandson of the Pasha of Marrakech, Thami El Glaoui, he was born into a unique cultural and artistic heritage. He became a child star at the age of five, debuting in the series "Poly," written and directed by his mother. However, it was his role as Sébastien in the beloved television series "Belle et Sébastien" (1965) that made him an icon. For years, audiences followed the adventures of the young boy and his Great Pyrenees dog in the snowy Alps. The series was a global phenomenon, and El Glaoui became the face of innocence and adventure for a generation. He continued to play the character in two sequels, literally growing up on screen. As an adult, El Glaoui transitioned to directing, winning a César Award for his short film "Première Classe" in 1985. He continued to act sporadically, appearing in films like "Un amour de pluie" and "Le Cousin." In a touching nod to his past, he had a cameo role in the 2013 film adaptation of "Belle et Sébastien," passing the torch to a new generation. Today, he remains active in the arts, running a café-théâtre in Biarritz. He has also written memoirs reflecting on his unusual childhood and his career. Mehdi El Glaoui is more than just a former child actor; he is a part of French cultural heritage. His work in "Belle et Sébastien" continues to enchant viewers, and his subsequent career demonstrates a lifelong dedication to the world of cinema and theater.
